GLOBAL SWITCH
Location: London Docklands
Category: Mission Critical
Scope: RIBA Stage 4 & 5
Completion: 2025
Project Size: 4,500 sqft per data hall
Project Description:
Located in the heart of London’s Docklands, the Global Switch Data Centre campus offers excellent connectivity with access to numerous carriers and cloud providers.
TClarke Limited appointed PDG to carry out RIBA Stages 4 and 5 to develop the London North Data Centre. The Data Centre is housed in a Grade II listed building, originally designed by renowned "hi-tech" architect Nicholas Grimshaw. Previously home to the Financial Times Press, the building has received critical acclaim, winning RIBA and Civic Trust awards!
Originally converted into a Data Centre in the early 2000s, it was granted protected status in 2016 due to its role in technological innovation in architecture and its historical significance to the British newspaper industry.
London North Phase 1.2 will add approximately 1,500m² NLA of new Technical Suites across three floors.
Major building structure upgrades were needed to support extra power and cooling systems, a new goods lift shaft, platform lifts, and improved welfare facilities.
PDG adopted the client's Stage 3 design, ensuring compliance, coordination, and technical standards were maintained across the 3 primary Data Halls.
